NEW ORLEANS ABORTION FUND GALA

One of our beloved pieces from the first iteration of God’s Country was donated as an auction item to the New Orleans Abortion Fund for their annual gala. We are grateful that this image found a new home and that it raised money for a humans rights organization we proudly stand behind.

CRESCENT CARE

The new health care facility Crescent Care reached out to artists across New Orleans in an effort to decorate their facility as a way to make a more pleasant environment for those seeking medical treatment. Southerly Gold donated a piece to help in this effort, and are pleased at the number of talented artists who donated their time and work to create a enjoyable space that caters to the community at large.

GOD’S COUNTRY BOOK LAUNCH

Mosquito Super Club, 3824 Dryades, New Orleans, LA 70115

Launch Party February 13th, 2019, 6-9pm

Please join us—Aubrey Edwards, Ariya Martin and Elena Ricci— as we celebrate the release of our six-book set God’sCountry. From 2012 through 2016, we traveled to the parishes that occupy the six delineated corners of the state, following the trails of industrialization and desire for Southern Utopia. These publications are an exploration of the promises and resources that the farthest reaches of Louisiana have held. From timber to oil, from land to sea, our images of the contemporary landscapes—captured along routes of the past—bear witness to the residue of these promises. More information about the book and ways to purchase can be found here.

GOD’S COUNTRY: THE TERRITORY AHEAD

Good Children Gallery, 4037 St. Claude Ave, New Orleans, LA 70117

Opening February 8th, 6-10pm

Show will run February 8th - April 7th, 2019

Over the course of five years, Southerly Gold ventured across the state of Louisiana creating a record of place, of stories stumbled upon, and a documentation of relics accessible to any wandering traveler or curious eye. The Territory Ahead is an ode to this region: to the industry and resources that are beholden to the land; to the people and places that have suffered and sacrificed in the name of prosperity; to the complex identity of place that arises in the intermingling of potential versus reality.
